The radio ads say "Starting July you will need a government issued photo
ID..."
Sorry, folks, but we've needed photo IDs for a long while. The need for
a photo ID is not a Harper invention - much as he'd like you to think
it is.
Get off the List
In the U.S., people who get on the list because their names are similar
to someone else's have been having trouble with the clearing process.
Many of them have simply changed the names they use for travel. It works.
Of course real terrorists wouldn't do that!
US-Style Rights Abuse - US-style
Bull
Canada's 'new' governor is making a big deal about a new airline passenger
"safety" program with radio ads and a web site. Trouble is, the only
thing "new" is a secret no-fly list you don't know you're on until they
tell you you can't board the plane.
The web site
No-Fly List
A Cheney-style secret list is maintained. It is illegal to reveal the
names on the list
"For the purposes of the Passenger Protect Program, Transport Canada is
maintaining a list with the name, date of birth and gender of each specified
person and providing the list to airlines in the program. Airlines are
responsible, under the Identity Screening Regulations, for protecting
the confidentiality of the information."
Too bad for the Johns, Daves, Mohammeds and Kims with similar names to
untried suspects.
More obedience to Harper's bosses south of the border.
